Future Manchester United Manager: Ole, Poch or other?

Ole Gunnar Solskjær is the first United manager to ever win the first six games of a managerial spell at the club and some fans are already calling for him to be given the job permanently once the end of the season comes. They look revitalised under Ole and seem to have the passion and that certain Fergie style of play back or at least signs of it. However other candidates have been linked and I have few ideas of my own even if they are rather far fetched.

Mauricio Pochettino

Yes lets get the obvious and most likely option out of the way. Pochettino has been linked with United for what seems like decades now but this isn’t surprising as most people agree his style of play and management could flourish with the squad and resources and Old Trafford. His Spurs side are a proper team, a unit which he has built over the years he has been with them. He has complete trust in his players and it seems vica-versa too. Players like Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba could become great players under Poch with Pogba especially given more attacking freedom which suits him a lot more than a defensive setup. The defence does need improving but Mauricio is a great organiser and could get that current back four into better running order from the get go. Not to mention could maybe attract a couple of spurs players to go north too.

Diego Simeone

Definitely an outside shot and in my opinion not the manager United need but rumours have been floating about so I thought i’d give my two pence. Simeone is the current Athletico Madrid manager and has been there for a while now. He’s turned Athletico into a great side both in the league and in Europe having lead his team to two Champions League finals in which both times they fell short. He’s turned the two horse race league of La Liga into a three horse race having held his own against the two Spanish giants. In terms of style he is very organised and disciplined, defensively solid and is not afraid of handing out a good hiding if levels are not met. He could be too similar to Mourihno though in my opinion as both managers share a lot of similarities in a defensive style of play which I don’t think would suit United going forward into the future.

Gareth Southgate

Going to keep this short and sweet, not a good idea at all. Southgate is a hero and I love the man but is a hugely overrated manager and is the last thing Manchester United need. Should stay firmly in the England job. United need a serial winner or/and a man with experience of managing in the top leagues. Next please.

Zinedine Zidane

Now here is my favourite pick and the one who I personally think could get Manchester United back to the top level again. Zidane has only had a short career in management so far and all be it with the best team in Europe at the time with one of if not the best player in the world but still the guy is a winner. No matter how good a team you have winning three (YES THREE HOW INSANE) Champions Leagues in a row and being the first manager in the history of football to do so puts you pretty highly up in my list lets just say. He learnt his trade under Carlo Ancelotti and you can tell because his standard setup is very similar. However Zidanes best attribute of the seasons winning with Madrid was his flexibility in styles and changing them during the game, sometimes using three or more different formations and tactics during one game and the players carrying this out with ease which shows his coaching ability. He would attract the biggest names in football and could make some of the average players in the red devils squad move up levels in ability. Also being a former Real Madrid B team manager he loves to incorporate youth and that can only benefit United with the amount of youth in the squad. Getting him could be difficult but what a get it would be.
